Los Angeles, CA | October 2026 — Actor, filmmaker, writer, and producer Jean Elie has been selected as a recipient of the Kickstarter Cultural Fund, securing a $2,000 contribution toward the finishing funds for his independently produced vertical mockumentary comedy series, Living Practical. His vertical series is also the 2nd official RALLY pick on our network!
Created by Elie and produced through his production company, Bassett House Pictures, Living Practical explores the absurdity of love, relationships, and living together through the story of Bernard and Yvette, a couple navigating cohabitation while living with superpowers.
The series was shot independently with a community of filmmakers and creatives and is now entering its final stages of post-production. The Kickstarter campaign is raising $10,000 in finishing funds, with Kickstarter’s Cultural Fund contributing up to $2,000 toward the campaign goal.
“Getting selected for the Kickstarter Cultural Fund is a huge validation of what we’re building,” says Jean Elie. “We made this project independently, with a small team and a community of people who believed in the idea before there was anything to show. Now we’re asking the community that loved the teaser and viral clips to help us get it across the finish line.”
The funds raised through the campaign will support the final stages of production, including editing, color, sound, visual effects, reshoots, and additional post-production needed to prepare the series for release.
Unlike traditional financing models, Living Practical is being completed through a community-backed approach that gives audiences an opportunity to participate directly in the development and release of the series.
“This campaign is bigger than raising money for a show,” Elie says. “It’s about creating another pathway for independent filmmakers to make work, build an audience, and prove there’s a community for the story before waiting for someone else to give us permission to tell it.”
The Kickstarter campaign has a $10,000 all-or-nothing goal. With the Cultural Fund contribution, the campaign is seeking to raise the remaining funds from supporters over the course of the 30 day campaign.
Supporters can contribute to the campaign and become part of the production community behind Living Practical, with rewards that include exclusive behind-the-scenes content, access to updates throughout the finishing process, and opportunities to connect directly with the filmmakers.
