I recently had the opportunity to sit in on the official writers’ room for Imani Nia Robinson’s upcoming series, 3 Blind Mice, in Baltimore, Maryland. It was my first time experiencing the creative process behind a television series from the inside, and witnessing a room full of talented storytellers collaborate to build a world centered on HBCU life was both inspiring and enlightening.
From the very beginning, it was clear that 3 Blind Mice is striving to be more than just another coming-of-age dramedy. The series aims to authentically capture the HBCU experience while exploring identity, friendship, family, and purpose. At the same time, it presents a vibrant and community-driven portrait of Baltimore—one that challenges stereotypes and highlights the city’s culture, resilience, and heart.
Robinson believes 3 Blind Mice has the potential to make Baltimore proud while helping redefine the landscape of Black television. Her vision extends beyond the screen, proving that independent creators can produce impactful, high-quality stories, build sustainable careers, and succeed without compromising their creative voice.
LOGLINE: Naeemah, a young Black woman raised by White adoptive parents, transfers to an HBCU in Baltimore in pursuit of her Black identity and follows in the footsteps of her biological parents.
The series follows three Black women from vastly different backgrounds as they navigate friendship, identity, love, ambition, and adulthood while entering different stages of their twenties.
The cast features Imani Nia Robinson, Tristan “Mack” Wilds, Natasha M. Gallop, Crystal T. Johnson, Anthony Holland Jr., Arthur Fitzhugh, Jermain Crawford, and more.
