Biography
Imani Nia Robinson is an American writer, producer, actress, and arts educator whose career has seamlessly bridged performance, screenwriting, and television production. A graduate of the California Institute of the Arts with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Theater, Robinson began acting professionally at the age of nine and quickly established herself as a versatile performer. Early television appearances included recurring work on the acclaimed HBO drama The Wire, where she portrayed Myisha, followed by roles on The Deuce and the HBO limited series We Own This City. Her experience in front of the camera was complemented by an equally impressive journey behind the scenes, including an internship with HBO’s Development Department, completion of the University of California, Los Angeles Professional Program in Screenwriting, and work in the writers’ room on The Deuce, where she served as Writers’ Production Assistant and Assistant to executive producer and writer George Pelecanos.
Building on that foundation, Robinson founded Faith & Purpose Productions LLC, a company dedicated to developing original stories while creating opportunities for emerging artists. Through the company, she wrote and executive produced the short film 3 Blind Mice, in which she also starred as Naeemah. The project became an award-winning festival favorite, earning 11 festival awards and establishing Robinson as a compelling new voice in independent filmmaking. The success of 3 Blind Mice has since led to the expansion of the property into a television series, with Robinson currently leading development and overseeing the completion of the first season’s scripts alongside an assembled writers’ room.
Beyond her work in film and television, Robinson has become an influential arts educator and advocate. She has developed performing arts curriculum for schools within the New York City Department of Education and teaches screenwriting for film and television at the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA), where she mentors the next generation of storytellers. Her work consistently reflects a commitment to elevating underrepresented voices while emphasizing artistic integrity, education, and community impact.
Today, Robinson’s career is centered on writing, producing, and showrunning original content through Faith & Purpose Productions. With the expansion of 3 Blind Mice into a television series and an increasing presence as a creative executive, writer, and mentor, she continues to build a career defined by authentic storytelling, collaboration, and a dedication to creating meaningful opportunities both in front of and behind the camera. While she has earned recognition through the festival success of 3 Blind Mice, there are currently no major industry awards or nominations (such as Emmy, Writers Guild, or Academy Award nominations) publicly credited to Robinson as of 2026.
