Netflix’s ‘A Different World’ sequel series has officially claimed the #1 spot on the Netflix Top 10 TV Shows in the U.S. Today chart following its Sept. 24 debut. The show took the streamer and social media by storm, amassing widespread viewership and critical acclaim that sent the show straight to the top of the charts.
The series stars Maleah Joi Moon as Deborah Wayne, the daughter of Whitley Gilbert (Jasmine Guy) and Dwayne Wayne (Kadeem Hardison), as she begins her freshman year at Hillman College and works to forge her own identity at her parents’ HBCU alma mater. The main ensemble features Alijah Kai, Cornell Young IV, Kennedi Reece, Jordan Aaron Hall, and Chibuikem Uche, with Vincent Jamal Hooper, Elijah J. Roberts, Renee Harrison, Dasan Frazier, and Joshua Suiter rounding out the supporting cast.
The show also features guest appearances from Cliff “Method Man” Smith and Tichina Arnold, alongside legacy cast members Kadeem Hardison, Jasmine Guy, Cree Summer, and Darryl M. Bell, who return to reprise their original roles—with executive producer Debbie Allen helping bridge the original classic with the new chapter.
Creator, showrunner, and executive producer Felicia Pride celebrated the chart-topping milestone on Instagram, sharing: “Thank you so much for all the love and support and endless joy you all have shown us!”
