About
MACRO is an award-winning film and television production company founded in 2015 by media executive and producer Charles D. King. Headquartered in Los Angeles, the multi-platform studio was created with a mission to amplify stories from Black creators and other underrepresented communities through film, television, and digital media. Since its launch, MACRO has grown into a major force in Hollywood with divisions including MACRO Film Studios and MACRO Television Studios, producing culturally impactful content across theatrical releases and streaming platforms.
MACRO quickly established itself with high-profile film collaborations and co-financing partnerships. Early projects included the critically acclaimed drama Fences, directed by and starring Denzel Washington, which earned four Academy Award nominations and won Best Supporting Actress for Viola Davis. The company also helped produce notable films such as Mudbound, Roman J. Israel, Esq., Sorry to Bother You, and Just Mercy, many of which received critical acclaim and major awards recognition. MACRO reached a historic milestone with Judas and the Black Messiah, which earned multiple Academy Awards, including Best Supporting Actor for Daniel Kaluuya, and made King part of the first all-Black producing team nominated for Best Picture.
Across its slate of productions, MACRO’s films have collectively received 15 Academy Award nominations and three Oscar wins, alongside numerous industry honors. In television, MACRO Television Studios has also built a strong portfolio, producing series such as Raising Dion, Gentefied, and the documentary limited series Dear Mama. The studio’s television projects have earned multiple Emmy nominations and a Peabody Award nomination, reflecting the company’s continued influence in episodic storytelling.
In recent years, MACRO has expanded its presence across both film and streaming platforms. Among its newest productions is the sci-fi comedy They Cloned Tyrone, starring John Boyega, Jamie Foxx, and Teyonah Parris. The company has also been developing projects such as Freaky Tales and producing premium television like Government Cheese, a historical dramedy starring David Oyelowo that premiered in 2025.
With a mission centered on representation and global storytelling, MACRO continues to expand through partnerships with major studios and streaming platforms while investing in diverse filmmakers and emerging voices. Through its growing slate of award-winning films and series, the company has become one of the most influential independent production entities shaping modern entertainment.
