About

Viva Maude is an American film and television production company founded in 2020 by actress and producer Tessa Thompson, with development and production led alongside partner Kishori Rajan. Headquartered in the United States and operating primarily out of Los Angeles, the company was launched with the mission of amplifying bold, genre-defying storytelling and expanding opportunities for underrepresented voices in film and television. Viva Maude first emerged with a high-profile first-look television deal with HBO and HBO Max, later expanding its footprint through a multi-year first-look film partnership with Amazon MGM Studios, positioning the banner as a growing force in prestige and culturally driven content.

The company’s film slate includes the critically recognized drama Hedda, directed by Nia DaCosta, which Thompson both starred in and produced under the Viva Maude banner. The film premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival and earned multiple accolades, including recognition from the African American Film Critics Association and nominations across awards bodies such as the Black Reel Awards and Astra Film Awards. Viva Maude has also made a strong impact in the documentary space, serving as executive producer on the Sundance Grand Jury Prize-winning film Seeds, a project that went on to collect numerous festival awards and awards-season nominations, further elevating the company’s reputation for championing socially resonant storytelling.

On the television side, Viva Maude continues to build a diverse development slate, including high-profile literary adaptations such as The Secret Lives of Church Ladies and Who Fears Death, as well as the upcoming Netflix limited series His & Hers, which Thompson executive produces and stars in, set to premiere in 2026. The company is also developing a broad pipeline of more than 20 film and television projects spanning multiple genres, reflecting its commitment to both commercial and prestige storytelling.

Since its inception, Viva Maude has been closely aligned with Thompson’s own award-winning career, with projects connected to the company contributing to honors including Gotham Award recognition, Film Independent Spirit Award nominations, and major festival wins. With a focus on artist-driven narratives, inclusive perspectives, and ambitious collaborations, Viva Maude continues to establish itself as a forward-thinking production company shaping the next wave of film and television.
