About

Simpson Street is a film, television, and digital production company founded in 2016 by Emmy-winning actress and producer Kerry Washington. Named after the Bronx street where Washington’s mother grew up, the company was created to develop stories that amplify diverse voices and socially relevant narratives across film, television, theater, and emerging media. Operating through development deals with ABC Signature and other major studios and streamers, Simpson Street quickly established itself as a growing creative force behind character-driven dramas, documentaries, and culturally impactful storytelling.

The company’s debut project, the HBO film Confirmation (2016), starred Washington as Anita Hill and received multiple nominations including Primetime Emmy, NAACP Image Award, and Critics’ Choice recognition, while winning the Writers Guild of America Award for Long Form – Original. Simpson Street expanded into serialized storytelling with Five Points (2018–2019), one of the first scripted dramas launched on Facebook Watch. The company also brought its stage production American Son to Broadway before producing the acclaimed Netflix adaptation American Son (2019), which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival and earned an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Television Movie along with several NAACP Image Award nominations.

Simpson Street has also delivered major television events, including the Emmy-winning ABC special Live in Front of a Studio Audience, which recreated classic sitcom episodes such as All in the Family, Good Times, Diff’rent Strokes, and The Facts of Life. The 2019 edition received four Emmy nominations and won for Outstanding Variety Special (Live). In film, the company produced the political documentary The Fight (2020), which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival and follows ACLU attorneys battling civil rights cases across the United States.

In recent years, Simpson Street has continued expanding its footprint across streaming platforms with high-profile series including Little Fires Everywhere for Hulu—starring Washington and Reese Witherspoon—as well as projects such as Reasonable Doubt and UnPrisoned. The company has also ventured into audio storytelling through partnerships with Audible and continues to develop new film, television, and digital projects that center diverse perspectives and socially conscious narratives. Through a growing slate of award-recognized productions and collaborations with major studios and streamers, Simpson Street remains a significant creative platform for stories that explore identity, justice, and the complexity of the modern American experience.
