About
MegaMind Media is a Black-owned, full-service film and television production company founded by Tressa Azarel Smallwood and Donte Lee, and headquartered in the Maryland/Washington, D.C. (DMV) region, with additional production operations in Atlanta, Los Angeles, and Miami. Established as an extension of Smallwood’s successful publishing company, Life Changing Books, the company built its foundation on adapting bestselling urban fiction into screen content, quickly evolving into a multi-platform content engine specializing in feature films, biopics, and original scripted television programming. MegaMind Media gained early traction with its first book-to-film adaptation, Secrets, followed by All In (2019), a crime drama that earned the BET “Audience Award” for Best Narrative Feature at the American Black Film Festival, helping position the company as a notable independent voice in Black cinema. The company has since produced more than 30 projects across film and television, collaborating with major platforms and networks including BET Networks, AMC Networks, ALLBLK, Tubi Originals, TV One, BET+, and Pluto TV. Among its most recognized titles are Holiday Heartbreak and A Rich Christmas, the latter of which earned a NAMIC Award nomination for Best Original Movie or Special. In television, MegaMind Media has contributed to culturally driven series such as Wicked City (ALLBLK), which returned for a third season, and the BETHer short-form series The Waiting Room and The Couch, created in partnership with prominent actresses and directors to spotlight breast cancer and mental health awareness.
The company has also received industry recognition through NAACP Image Award nominations for First Lady of BMF: The Tonesa Welch Story, marking a milestone in its expansion into high-profile television movies and collaborations with established talent.
As of its most recent slate, MegaMind Media continues to operate as both a production service provider and a self-financing studio, focused on scaling original content and creator-driven storytelling. The company is currently expanding its infrastructure with the development of MegaMind Studios, a production facility slated to open in 2026, reinforcing its long-term commitment to independent production, talent development, and culturally rooted storytelling.
