About
Hoorae Media (often referred to simply as Hoorae) is an American multimedia production company founded in 2020 by writer, producer, and actress Issa Rae, evolving from her earlier banner Issa Rae Productions. Headquartered in Inglewood, California, the company was created as a unified umbrella for Rae’s expanding slate of film, television, audio, and digital storytelling ventures, with a mission centered on amplifying diverse voices and culturally resonant narratives. Hoorae operates through multiple divisions—including Hoorae Media for film and television production, the music label Raedio, talent-management arm ColorCreative, and marketing division Fête—positioning the company as a cross-platform creative studio focused on entertainment, music, and culture.
Hoorae first gained widespread recognition through its association with Rae’s critically acclaimed HBO comedy-drama Insecure, which ran for five seasons and earned multiple Primetime Emmy and Golden Globe nominations while winning a Peabody Award for its culturally influential storytelling. The company also helped produce the Emmy-winning HBO series A Black Lady Sketch Show, as well as the Max comedy Rap Sh!t, which explores the rise of a female rap duo in Miami and reflects Hoorae’s focus on contemporary Black culture and music-driven narratives. Additional television and unscripted projects connected to the company’s growing slate include Sweet Life: Los Angeles, the HBO Max revival of Project Greenlight, and the documentary series Seen & Heard: The History of Black Television, which premiered at SXSW before airing on HBO and chronicles the legacy of Black creators in television.
In feature films, Hoorae has expanded into theatrical production with titles such as One of Them Days, a 2025 buddy comedy starring Keke Palmer and SZA, which became a commercial hit following its Sony Pictures release and further established the company’s presence in mainstream cinema. Hoorae’s development slate also includes projects such as Perfect Strangers, Ghost in the Machine for Netflix, Sinkhole with Monkeypaw Productions, and other forthcoming features designed to blend genre storytelling with socially conscious themes.
Through strategic studio partnerships and first-look deals—including collaborations with major studios and streaming platforms—Hoorae has grown into one of the most influential independent Black-led production companies in Hollywood. Its projects collectively span scripted television, unscripted programming, documentary storytelling, and theatrical films, consistently spotlighting emerging talent and underrepresented perspectives. With ongoing projects in development and expanding partnerships across film, television, and music, Hoorae continues to build on its reputation as a culturally impactful studio shaping the next generation of inclusive entertainment.
