Biography
Y’lan Noel is a Panamanian-American actor whose commanding screen presence and understated intensity have made him one of the more compelling performers to emerge from a new generation of leading Black talent in Hollywood. Born in New York City and raised between Queens and Decatur, Georgia, Noel studied at Morehouse College before continuing his training at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts, where he sharpened the craft that would later define his work on both television and film. He first began gaining industry attention with early appearances in independent projects before breaking through with his memorable role as Daniel King on HBO’s acclaimed series Insecure, where his layered performance helped establish him as a charismatic and emotionally complex presence onscreen. He expanded his profile in film with a standout lead turn as Dmitri in The First Purge, anchoring the franchise installment with a performance that blended action, vulnerability, and social urgency, and later appeared in notable features including The Weekend, Slice, and The Photograph.
Noel has also been attached to high-profile prestige work on television, including the lead role of Dan Freeman in FX’s pilot adaptation of The Spook Who Sat by the Door and a major dramatic turn in Lady in the Lake, where he further showcased his dramatic range opposite a strong ensemble. In recent years, he has continued expanding into performance capture and voice work, taking on the role of Troy Marshall in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, a performance that earned him a nomination for the British Academy Games Award for Performer in a Leading Role — marking one of the most significant honors of his career to date.
