Biography
Tommy Davidson (born Anthony Reed on November 10, 1963) is an American actor, stand‑up comedian, writer, producer and voice artist whose dynamic career spans stand‑up stages, television, and feature films. Davidson first gained prominence as an original cast member on the groundbreaking sketch comedy series In Living Color (1990–1994), where his energetic performances and memorable celebrity impressions helped define the show’s irreverent style.
He went on to star in sitcoms including Between Brothers (1997–1999) and Malcolm & Eddie (1999–2000), and became a familiar voice in animation as Oscar Proud on Disney’s beloved The Proud Family (2001–2005) and its 2022 revival The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder (2022–2025). On the big screen, Davidson’s film work includes his debut opposite Halle Berry in Strictly Business (1991), cult favorites such as Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls (1995) and the Jeff Pollack comedy Booty Call (1997), Spike Lee’s Bamboozled (2000), and the spoof Black Dynamite (2009) — roles that showcased his range from broad comedy to cultural satire. His performances have earned multiple NAACP Image Award nominations (especially for his voice work on The Proud Family) and a Black Reel Award nod for Bamboozled. In addition to acting, Davidson has released comedy specials and a 2020 memoir Living in Color: What’s Funny About Me.
In recent years he has maintained a steady presence across screens of all sizes, including guest spots on Poppa’s House and ongoing voice roles, while leading the post‑production comedy series The Varnell Hill Show, a Martin spinoff centered on his iconic character for BET+.
