Biography

Michael “Boogie” Pinckney is an American writer, director, and producer whose versatile career in film and television spans from assistant directing on major studio projects to helming award-winning independent features and series. Pinckney began his journey in the industry working in the assistant directing department on high-profile films including Inside Man and Precious, as well as television staples like Broad City and Law & Order: Criminal Intent, gaining early experience on both sides of the camera.

 

Transitioning into writing and directing, Pinckney made a notable mark with his feature film debut distributed by Lionsgate, and quickly established himself as a storyteller with range—from compelling documentaries to genre films and character-driven dramas. His award-winning film The Trade, which explores the complex realities of sex trafficking, became a standout title in his catalog and is available on streaming platforms such as Amazon Prime.

 

Pinckney’s recent work includes a string of high-profile projects across both digital and traditional platforms. He wrote and directed the Tubi original Killer Beat (2024), and the dramatic Reality TV Murders (2025), showcasing his flair for suspense and socially attuned storytelling while expanding his reach in the thriller genre.

 

His directorial credits also include the Apple TV-screening romantic comedy Twisted Hearts (2024), the heartwarming holiday feature He Who Findeth (2023), and the critically noted docuseries 6 Minutes to Glory (2022) about HBCU marching bands—which earned regional Emmy recognition for its impact. Pinckney has further contributed to television, directing episodes for the anthology series Terror Lake Drive for ALLBLK and piloting the series Blue Flame, centered on an all-female undercover police unit.

 

In addition to his directing work, Pinckney’s influence extends behind the scenes as a seasoned producer and writer, shaping original content that centers diverse voices and bold narratives. He also served in a creative executive capacity at Jax Media, supporting emerging talent and development on series including Emily in Paris, Russian Doll, and A Black Lady Sketch Show.
