Biography

Isaiah John is an American actor known for his breakout performance as Leon Simmons in the FX crime drama Snowfall (2017–2023). Born on November 16, 1995, in Atlanta, Georgia, John developed an early interest in entertainment and began pursuing acting seriously as a teenager, appearing in a student film titled No Way Out in 2009. After training with acting coaches including Carl Ford and gaining experience behind the scenes as a production assistant and sound technician, he gradually built his résumé with small roles in film and television. Early appearances included parts in the drama Standing Up (2013), the MTV series Finding Carter, the sci-fi sequel The Divergent Series: Insurgent (2015), and the Bounce TV drama Saints & Sinners. He also appeared in Barbershop: The Next Cut (2016) before gaining wider recognition.

 

John’s career breakthrough arrived in 2017 when he was cast as Leon Simmons, the volatile yet complex childhood friend of Franklin Saint, on Snowfall, a critically acclaimed series exploring the early days of the crack cocaine epidemic in 1980s Los Angeles.
