Biography

David Jonsson (born 4 September 1993 in London, England) is a British actor whose dynamic range and genre‑spanning performances have marked him as one of his generation’s most exciting talents. A graduate of the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, Jonsson began his career on the West End stage before transitioning to screen work, first appearing in series like Endeavour and Deep State before breaking out internationally as Augustus “Gus” Sackey on the BBC Two/HBO drama Industry (2020–2022). He garnered critical attention for his lead turn in the Sundance‑acclaimed romantic comedy Rye Lane (2023), earning a British Independent Film Award nomination, and further expanded his profile with roles like Luke Fitzwilliam in the BBC’s Murder Is Easy (2023). Jonsson’s striking performance as the android Andy in Ridley Scott’s Alien: Romulus (2024) won him the 2025 BAFTA Rising Star Award and multiple critics’ award nominations.

 

In 2025, he delivered a powerful supporting turn as Peter McVries in The Long Walk and starred as Taylor in the gritty prison drama Wasteman (2025/2026), for which he received further BIFA and London Critics’ Circle recognition. Alongside a Saturn Award nomination for Alien: Romulus and earlier BIFA nods, his accolades also include a Black British Theatre Award for his acclaimed stage work. Beyond acting, Jonsson is developing original television material and has joined initiatives with BAFTA to mentor emerging filmmakers, underscoring his expanding influence both on and off‑screen.
