Byron Manuel

Byron Manuel is an award-winning writer, producer, director, and showrunner whose work spans television, film, and digital media. Based in Los Angeles, Manuel has built a reputation as a multi-hyphenate storyteller dedicated to creating original content that amplifies diverse voices while blending comedy, drama, and contemporary social themes.

Before establishing himself as an independent creator, Manuel gained professional experience working behind the scenes on several high-profile television productions, including the HBO hit Euphoria, Showtime’s Kidding, Disney Channel’s K.C. Undercover, and STARZ’s Run the World, where he served as a writer’s assistant.

As an independent filmmaker, Manuel has written, directed, produced, and showrun numerous scripted projects including Underdogs, Booty Call Chronicles, Flockers, The Cheating Trifecta, Trifecta, and Famous-Ish. His ability to wear multiple hats—creator, writer, director, editor, and executive producer—has made him one of the more versatile emerging voices in independent Black entertainment.

In recent years, Manuel expanded his footprint with projects including Cuddle Season, The Lesbian Homie, and the feature film Swoon, which he wrote, directed, and produced. He has also produced and developed several independent films and shorts while continuing to mentor and collaborate with rising filmmakers and actors.

Among his latest projects is the 2026 television mini-series The Heiress, the Baller and the Secret Society, where he serves as writer, director, and producer, further showcasing his commitment to creator-driven storytelling.

Outside of filmmaking, Manuel has become a respected voice in the independent creator space, frequently discussing entrepreneurship, fundraising, content ownership, and the realities of producing quality projects outside the traditional Hollywood system. In 2025, he spoke extensively about independent filmmaking, distribution, and bringing projects like Swoon to audiences through streaming platforms.
