Biography
Alexandra Shipp (born July 16, 1991) is an American actress, singer and producer whose versatility and dynamic screen presence have made her one of Hollywood’s steadily rising talents. Shipp broke out portraying music icon Aaliyah Haughton in the Lifetime biopic Aaliyah: The Princess of R&B (2014), showcasing both her dramatic and musical talents. Shortly thereafter, she gained wider recognition as Kimberly Woodruff in the critically acclaimed biographical drama Straight Outta Compton (2015), a film that became the highest-grossing music biopic of all time.
Shipp transitioned into blockbuster cinema when she was cast as the youthful incarnation of Ororo Munroe/Storm in X-Men: Apocalypse (2016), a role she reprised in X-Men: Dark Phoenix (2019), bringing fresh energy to the iconic comic-book heroine. Her ability to move between genres—from superhero action to heartfelt drama—was further evident in performances such as Abby Suso in the romantic comedy Love, Simon (2018) and Susan Wilson in the musical drama tick, tick… Boom! (2021). In 2023, Shipp appeared in the cultural phenomenon Barbie, contributing to the ensemble’s global success.
In television, Shipp first made her mark playing KT Rush on Nickelodeon’s mystery series House of Anubis (2011–13), laying the groundwork for her varied screen career. She has since appeared in projects ranging from short films like Summons (2024) to series roles such as Laid (2024).
