Biography
Aldis Hodge is an award-winning American actor, producer, entrepreneur, and designer whose career has spanned more than three decades across film, television, and voice acting. Beginning his career as a child actor in the early 1990s, Hodge first appeared on Sesame Street before earning early film roles in Die Hard with a Vengeance, Bed of Roses, Big Momma’s House, The Ladykillers, and A Good Day to Die Hard. His breakout came as the brilliant hacker Alec Hardison on TNT’s acclaimed crime drama Leverage (2008–2012), a performance that earned him a Saturn Award nomination and established him as one of television’s most charismatic leading talents. He later reprised the fan-favorite role in Leverage: Redemption, continuing one of television’s most beloved ensemble franchises.
Hodge continued to build an impressive résumé with standout television appearances in The Walking Dead, Rectify, Turn: Washington’s Spies, Black Mirror, and Star Trek: Short Treks, before delivering one of his most acclaimed performances as Noah in WGN America’s Underground, earning widespread critical praise and a Black Reel Award nomination. On the big screen, he portrayed MC Ren in the blockbuster Straight Outta Compton, followed by memorable performances in the Academy Award-nominated Hidden Figures, Jack Reacher: Never Go Back, Brian Banks, What Men Want, Clemency, The Invisible Man, One Night in Miami…, The Birthday Cake, and Marmalade. His portrayal of Jim Brown in Regina King’s One Night in Miami… further elevated his reputation as a dramatic actor and contributed to the film’s numerous ensemble honors. Hodge also joined the DC Universe as Carter Hall/Hawkman in Black Adam and voiced John Stewart in the animated feature Green Lantern: Beware My Power and Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths.
Throughout his career, Hodge has earned recognition from many of the entertainment industry’s most respected organizations. He is a Screen Actors Guild Award winner as part of the ensemble cast of Hidden Figures and received additional SAG nominations for both Straight Outta Compton and One Night in Miami…. His acclaimed performance in Clemency earned a Gotham Independent Film Award nomination for Best Actor, while One Night in Miami… brought him a Film Independent Spirit Award (Robert Altman Award) as part of the ensemble, along with honors from the San Francisco International Film Festival and the Miami Film Festival. He has also received multiple NAACP Image Award nominations, Black Reel Award nominations, a Satellite Award nomination for City on a Hill, a NAMIC Vision Award, and numerous critics’ honors recognizing both his leading and supporting performances across film and television.
In recent years, Hodge has firmly established himself as a leading man with his starring role as detective Alex Cross in Prime Video’s hit crime thriller Cross, adapted from James Patterson’s bestselling novels. Serving as both star and producer, Hodge helped launch one of the platform’s biggest original series, with the show’s strong reception leading to an early second-season renewal and further critical recognition, including nominations for the Gotham Television Awards, Black Reel Television Awards, and NAACP Image Awards, as well as a NAMIC Vision Award win for his performance. Beyond acting, Hodge is an accomplished horologist and founder of the luxury watch brand A. Hodge Atelier, an artist, and co-founder of 9B Collective, a Black-owned concept art studio dedicated to expanding opportunities for diverse creatives. As of today, he continues to balance high-profile acting projects with producing, design, and entrepreneurship, making him one of Hollywood’s most versatile and accomplished multi-hyphenate talents.
