The Biopic sequel is one of 35 films set to receive $226 million tax incentives in total in the latest round of approvals from the California Film Commission.
The original Michael biopic received $21 million in California tax credits before becoming a billion-dollar box office success. The state’s incentive program has since grown more generous, with the new film eligible for credits covering up to 35% of qualifying production costs, compared with 17.5% for the original.
