Anthony Mackie is set to portray Shakespeare’s iconic Macbeth beginning in spring 2027.

For Mackie, the production represents a return to his theatrical roots. The actor has spoken about his love of theater since childhood and the significance of finally taking on one of Shakespeare’s most celebrated characters on a Broadway stage.

The production will bring the acclaimed Donmar Warehouse staging of Macbeth to New York. Originally produced in London in 2023 with David Tennant and Cush Jumbo, the production later transferred to the West End.

One of the production’s most distinctive elements is its immersive sound design. Audio designer Gareth Fry created a binaural system that places audience members in headphones, allowing them to hear dialogue and subtle performances with remarkable clarity.

Mackie said the approach creates a more intimate experience, bringing the audience closer to the actors rather than requiring performers to project their voices across a traditional theater.

Additional casting, the Broadway theater and specific performance dates have not yet been announced.
