Eddie Murphy is making his scripted television debut with The Chairman, an upcoming drama in development at Peacock from Mad Men creator Matthew Weiner.
The acclaimed actor and comedian, known for films including Beverly Hills Cop and Coming to America, began his career on Saturday Night Live and has since appeared in nearly 40 feature films. Despite his extensive film career, Murphy has never led a scripted television series.
Murphy previously helped create the animated comedy The PJs for Fox and the CBS sitcom The Royal Family, both during the 1990s. However, The Chairman would mark his first starring role in a scripted series.
Plot details for the Peacock project remain under wraps. Weiner is attached to write and executive produce the series, marking his latest television project since Amazon’s The Romanoffs, which premiered in 2018.
