Biography
Benny Boom (born Benny Douglas) is an acclaimed American film, television, and music video director whose visually dynamic storytelling has made him one of the most influential directors to emerge from the music video world. A Philadelphia native and graduate of Temple University’s School of Film and Media Arts, Boom began his career working under legendary filmmakers including Spike Lee, Hype Williams, Director X, and Paul Hunter before establishing himself as one of the industry’s premier music video directors. Over the past two decades, he has directed more than 200 music videos for some of the biggest names in music, including Nicki Minaj, Nas, Nelly, Sean “Diddy” Combs, 50 Cent, Ciara, Akon, Keyshia Cole, LL Cool J, Busta Rhymes, Lil Wayne, Burna Boy, GloRilla, Megan Thee Stallion, and countless others, helping define the visual language of modern hip-hop and R&B. His work has accumulated billions of online views and earned him multiple BET Awards for Video Director of the Year, making him one of the most celebrated directors in the category’s history. He has also received several BET Hip Hop Awards recognizing his excellence in music video direction, while his 2022 video for Nicki Minaj and Lil Baby’s “Do We Have a Problem?” won the MTV Video Music Award for Best Hip-Hop Video.
Boom transitioned into feature filmmaking with the 2009 comedy Next Day Air, starring Mike Epps, Mos Def, Omari Hardwick, and Donald Faison, followed by the action thriller S.W.A.T.: Firefight (2011) and 48 Hours to Live (2016). He reached his widest international audience with All Eyez on Me (2017), the Tupac Shakur biopic starring Demetrius Shipp Jr., which became his highest-profile theatrical release and showcased his ability to blend large-scale storytelling with cultural authenticity.
