Biography
Shakim Compere is an American film and television producer, entrepreneur, and co-founder of Flavor Unit Entertainment, a prolific production company he launched in 1995 alongside Queen Latifah. Over the course of his career, Compere has established himself as a key force behind a wide slate of commercially successful and culturally impactful projects across both film and television. His feature film credits include producing romantic comedy Just Wright (2010) and co-producing The Cookout (2004), for which he also contributed to the story, in addition to involvement in projects such as Beauty Shop, The Perfect Holiday, and The Perfect Match. Earlier in his career, he also contributed to the music department on Deep Blue Sea (1999), showcasing his range within the industry.
On the television side, Compere has built an extensive résumé as an executive producer, with credits including series such as The Rap Game, Single Ladies, and Let’s Stay Together, along with made-for-TV films like Life Support, The Real MVP: The Wanda Durant Story, and Flint. He earned critical acclaim for his work on HBO’s Bessie (2015), which won the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Television Movie, marking his first Emmy win, and later received another Emmy nomination for Flint (2018).
