Mamoudou Athie is a Mauritanian-American actor and producer known for his versatile performances across film, television, and voice acting. Born on November 6, 1988, in Mauritania, Athie moved to the United States as an infant after his diplomat father received political asylum, and he later grew up in New Carrollton, Maryland. He studied acting at the William Esper Studio and the Yale School of Drama before beginning his on-screen career in the mid-2010s.
Athie first gained attention with early film roles in Experimenter (2015), The Circle (2017), Patti Cake$ (2017), and Unicorn Store (2017), followed by a supporting role in the political drama The Front Runner (2018). Around the same time, he built a strong television résumé with roles in the Netflix music-drama series The Get Down (2016–2017) and the Facebook Watch drama Sorry for Your Loss (2018–2019).
