Essence Atkins is an accomplished actress whose career has spanned more than three decades across television and film, earning her a reputation as one of Hollywood’s most versatile and enduring comedic and dramatic performers. A native of Brooklyn, New York, Atkins began acting as a teenager with appearances on iconic series including The Cosby Show, Family Matters, Saved by the Bell: The College Years, and The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air before landing her first starring role in CBS’s Under One Roof opposite James Earl Jones and Joe Morton. She gained widespread recognition portraying Tasha Yvette Henderson on the hit WB sitcom Smart Guy, establishing herself as one of television’s brightest comedic talents.
Atkins became a household name with her starring role as Dee Dee Thorne on UPN’s critically acclaimed sitcom Half & Half, which aired for four successful seasons from 2002 to 2006.
