Biography
Princess Monique Filmz is an American television and film director, producer, writer, author, and powerhouse storyteller whose career spans over two decades of creative achievement in Hollywood and beyond. Born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio, Monique began her journey as a model and actress before transitioning into filmmaking, where she quickly distinguished herself with her award-winning short The Call, which earned multiple top honors at film festivals including Best Director and Best Overall Film at the San Francisco Black Film Festival. She made her directorial feature TV film debut with Seasons of Love, starring Gladys Knight, Method Man, and LeToya Luckett, and went on to build a versatile body of work across television genres.
A graduate of the Disney/ABC Directing Program (Class of 2020), Monique has directed episodes of acclaimed series such as Black-ish, The Goldbergs, Our Kind of People, Run the World, Grand Crew, Bunk’d, and the STARZ drama BMF. Her recent credits include directing the 2025 Prime Video series Clean Slate and additional episodes of BMF and Run the World, showcasing her dynamic range behind the camera.
Monique’s contributions have been recognized with multiple Black Reel Award nominations, including Outstanding Director for a TV Movie or Mini-Series and Outstanding Directing in a Comedy Series. In addition to her on-screen work, she is the author of the inspirational memoir Hood to Hollywood: How to Stop Waiting to Be Discovered & Discover Yourself, and the founder of Princess Filmz Productions and the nonprofit Real Black Unicorns, which champions mentorship and opportunity for emerging storytellers of color. Her mission remains rooted in uplifting diverse voices and reshaping the narrative landscape through purposeful, inclusive storytelling.
