Biography

Wes Miller is an American filmmaker, writer, producer, and director known for crafting gritty, character-driven stories that explore social and cultural tensions in contemporary America. After a diverse early life—growing up in Memphis, Tennessee, playing three sports in college, and working as a civil rights trial attorney—Miller transitioned to visual storytelling full-time in 2015. He made his narrative feature debut with Prayer Never Fails (2016), a drama that earned nominations at several film festivals, including the Long Beach International Film Festival. His 2018 thriller River Runs Red, starring Taye Diggs, George Lopez, and John Cusack, won Best Feature Length Dramatic Film at the Downtown Los Angeles Film Festival and Best Film at the NOIDENTITY International Action Film Festival, and was also nominated for the Audience Award at the Heartland International Film Festival.

 

Miller continued to build his reputation with Hell on the Border (2019), a western that screened widely at festivals and Historically Black Colleges and Universities, and Atone (2019), which earned him Best Director of an Independent Film at the Hollywood & African Prestigious Awards (HAPA). In 2022 he directed the action film A Day to Die starring Bruce Willis and Frank Grillo, followed by the BET+ crime drama Call Her King (2023) featuring Naturi Naughton and Lance Gross. Most recently, Miller directed Black Heat (2024), a gritty action project starring Jason Mitchell, Tabitha “Dreamdoll” Robinson, and NLE Choppa that showcased his continued commitment to commercially compelling and socially resonant genre filmmaking. Throughout his career, Miller has balanced festival recognition with commercially viable projects and continues to evolve his voice as a filmmaker whose work challenges and entertains.
