Biography

Olivia Washington (born April 10, 1991 in Los Angeles, California) is an American actress best known for her dynamic work across television, film, and theater. A graduate of New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts, Washington began her screen career in the early 2010s with roles in films such as Lee Daniels’ The Butler (2013) and The Comedian (2016) before moving into television with guest appearances on series including Empire, Madoff, Mr. Robot and She’s Gotta Have It.

 

Washington garnered critical attention for her performance as Cassandra Brown‑Easley in the 2022 drama Breaking, which won the Sundance Film Festival’s U.S. Dramatic Special Jury Award for Best Ensemble Cast. She achieved wider recognition portraying Flora in the surreal comedy‑drama miniseries I’m a Virgo (2023), a role that earned her a 2024 Independent Spirit Award nomination for Best Supporting Performance in a New Scripted Series and established her as a compelling presence in boundary‑pushing television.

 

Her film work also includes roles in notable features such as The Little Things (2021), The Tragedy of Macbeth (2021), and The Piano Lesson (2024). On stage, Washington has been acclaimed for her theatrical work, including performances in Much Ado About Nothing at The Public Theater and as Kaneisha in the London West End production of Slave Play.
