Biography

Tessa Thompson is an acclaimed American actress and producer whose career spans independent film, blockbuster franchises, prestige television, and award-winning dramatic performances. She first gained recognition with her breakout performance in the indie drama Mississippi Damned (2009), which earned her the Grand Jury Prize at the American Black Film Festival, and continued building momentum with notable early roles in For Colored Girls (2010), Dear White People (2014), and Ava DuVernay’s Oscar-nominated historical drama Selma (2014). Her international breakthrough came with her role as Bianca Taylor in Creed (2015) and its sequels, establishing her as a leading dramatic talent while earning widespread critical acclaim and an African-American Film Critics Association Award for Best Supporting Actress. Thompson simultaneously expanded her profile into blockbuster territory portraying Valkyrie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, beginning with Thor: Ragnarok (2017), and reprising the role in later Marvel installments, while also appearing in major studio films such as Men in Black: International (2019) and the Disney remake Lady and the Tramp (2019).
